ESC has entered into an agreement with Alberta OHS for a Creative Sentencing project to develop products with a focus on building leadership capabilities, improving communication during multi-task operations, and reducing the risks associated with Simultaneous Operations (SIMOPs). Energy Safety Canada is seeking volunteers to participate.

starting in February 2026.
The four deliverables of the project are:
Leadership for Safer Workplaces (LSW) Course Subsidy:
Creative Sentencing funds will subsidize the cost of the Leadership for Safer Workplaces (LSW) course for supervisors and leaders in the energy and related sectors. This course covers key leadership attributes, effective risk management, and hazard identification, empowering leaders to improve workplace safety culture and decision-making. For a limited time, the selected LSW courses offered in Alberta will be available for $100, effective January 2026.
Simultaneous Operations (SIMOPs) Workshop:
To enhance industry understanding of SIMOPs, ESC will hold a workshop in Q2 2026. The workshop will bring together industry experts, safety personnel, and stakeholders to gather industry intelligence on managing multiple operations concurrently with a focus on reducing the risks of fatal and serious incidents. The insights from the workshop will help shape the subsequent SIMOPs Best Practice Guide.
SIMOPs Best Practice Guide:
Following the workshop, ESC will produce a comprehensive SIMOPs Best Practice Guide. This guide will be based on feedback from the industry and will provide detailed procedure for managing simultaneous operations safely in the energy sector. The guide will be available to the industry in Q1 2027.
Industry Forum and Resource Sharing:
ESC will host two Industry Forums at two locations to be determined in Q2 2027 to share the findings from the SIMOPs workshop and present the developed SIMOPs best practice guide. The forum will provide a platform for collaboration, discussion, and knowledge-sharing among O&G operators, contractors, and safety experts, with the goal of standardizing practices and further improving safety in the sector.
The project will stand up an industry committee to help in the planning and execution of the project activities. The time commitment is a two-hour meeting per month and up to eight hours for the workshop and each industry forum (a total of 72 hours commitment for two years).
The working group will:
Help scope out an industry workshop
Support SIMOPs best practice content development
Participate in industry events to roll out and promote the finished product
We are looking for individuals with experience in one of:
Deep understanding of OHS principles, regulations, and compliance requirements, especially in high-risk environments
Experience managing simultaneous operations ( e.g. drilling, construction, maintenance)
Ability to identify, analyze and prioritize risks in complex, multi-task operations
Experience in planning and executing multi-stakeholder projects
We kindly ask trade associations to:
Share this opportunity with your membership
Provide at least two representatives to support this project
